Hawaii is one of our top favourite go to’s for a relaxing holiday.
Hawaiians are super chilled. The first thing you must learn is the Shaka (hang loose sign Hawaiian style) so you look like a cool local. The feel here is laid back Pacific islands combined with American chic. Great food, loads of artisan produce, quirky villages and THE BEST shopping.
Pride of America cruises depart Honolulu every Saturday, year round and give you a stunning look at all the major Hawaiian Islands on the one trip. This is so much cheaper than trying to fly between the islands and add hotel stays etc. You also get to see the stunning Napali Coastline from the sea which is an absolute highlight!
Your Seven night itinerary travels Honolulu to Kahului (Maui) for an overnight stay. then on to the Big Island with stops on either side at Hilo and next day Kona. Day six and you are in Kauai with an overnight stay at Nawiliwili. Day eight you arrive back in Honolulu and disembark after breakfast.
On your Pride of America cruise there are always many optional extra shore excursions on offer, For the more independent traveller, there are also taxis, local tour operators and hire cars waiting for you in each port, to get up close and personal your way.
There are 2 overnight stays on the 7 day Pride of America cruise, so loads of time to explore. Having overnight stays in port mean it is easier to be independent, without having to race to get back to the ship. Check out our top taste tips and fave spots on the islands!
Honolulu – Head to the sprawling 15 block Chinatown close to the cruise port. There’s bustling stores loaded with old chests, silks and ornaments, the Chinatown Hawaiian market with steaming dumplings, noodle shops, an acupuncture den and Buddhist Temple. Lunch at the Lucky Belly is a blast
Maui – Head upcountry to the cowboy town of Makawao, located on the slopes of Maui’s Haleakala volcano, with quaint craft stores and a Lavender farm for a scone with luscious lavender jam. We love to combine this with a visit to Lahaina whenever we are in Maui. We just can’t stay away from this picturesque historic town with its ancient mariner folklore and delicious fresh catch of the day at Pa’ia Fishmarket Front Street Restaurant.
Kauai – This is a foodies paradise. Beautifully maintained coffee and macadamia plantations spread for miles on this lush island, where you can experience the whole process from tree to table including artisan produce tastings. Check out the Ocean Organic Vodka Factory where the local spring water and sugar cane grown on site creates the perfect blend! We took a shuttle from the ship to hire a convertible rental car for the day – the only way to travel here!
The Big Island of Hawaii – The combination of dramatic black rock coastline and up close and personal volcanic activity makes for a spectacular contrasting experience in the World Heritage region of Kilauea Volcano National Park. After a long day exploring and before you head back to the ship. Be sure to try Ken's House of Pancakes in Hilo, for an old school 24 hour American diner where you slip into a booth for some great comfort food.
Planning your next holiday is exciting, and while you hope the unexpected does not happen, it is best to be prepared. We strongly recommend you take out travel insurance when making your booking. Whether it’s a potential medical emergency, a flight cancellation, a delayed suitcase, or an unforeseen event, it's important to ensure you're adequately protected.
